An unexpectedly terminated (or aborted) remote backup may block further backups

Problem Description

In very rare cases, a remote backup that quit unexpectedly (due to a network problem, for example) can not be cleaned up properly. At present, it is not known what conditions must be met to cause this error. However, the canceled backup remains active and no further backups can be written. Additionally, the persistent volume can run out of disk space because of delayed deletions during active backups.

The same situation may occur when a remote backup is aborted manually or a remote backup is configured incorrectly.

Workaround

Restart the database.
