Description
Large systems (many nodes) which run many IMPORT/EXPORT statements concurrently may see some of them failing during initialization with errors like “04000 - ETL-5054: Starting ETL job failed.” and “Internal Server Error”. Another symptom is when DB unexpectedly restarts.
This is caused by the registration process, as communication channels are created and registered between all nodes for each process.
In a particular occurrence the observed behavior was in the magnitude of less than 0.01% of failures for the period of 4 days. These may be considered spurious / rare.
Higher rate of failures and disruptive failures should be reported to support for assistance.
Workaround
The IMPORT/EXPORT statement and/or SQL statement needs to be retried.
Fix
The ratio of this kind of failures in case of high IMPORT/EXPORT load is significantly reduced, the frequency of unexpected DB restarts is reduced.
