Update Exasol

This section explains how to update your Exasol database to a newer version.

Keeping your Exasol software updated will ensure that your database is running with optimal performance and high security. This section describes the update procedure in several different scenarios and explains how to ensure a successful update with minimal downtime.

Before you update, make sure that you have read the Update considerations.

There are several ways to update Exasol depending on which release you currently have:

Current version	Method
Exasol 8.21.0 and later	Use Exasol Deployment Tool (c4) to run the update process from the command line.
Exasol 8.20.0 or earlier	To update to the newest version of Exasol from a version prior to 8.21.0, you must create a new deployment and restore a backup of the old database on the new (empty) database. To learn more, see Migrate from Exasol 7.1 .
